News Groups and Forums
Ask questions, or just follow the discussions. All sorts of bonsai subjects are discussed. IMPORTANT !!!! PLEASE !!!! Before you ask a question: wait, and see what sort of questions are being asked, check in the archives or previous discussions, read the FAQ. Most lists have a list of frequently asked questions, and answers, if you have to ask a question ALWAYS give your correct name (A question asked my "Mickey Mouse" probably won't get answered) Say where you live - country/state is usually enough - growing conditions are very different in different parts of the world. Say what sort of tree species it is. Note: "bonsai" is not a species - it is away of growing trees. If you don't know the name of the tree your first job is to identify it. The newsgroup cannot help you!!!!!! Check out some of the bonsai websites, or the Bonsai Photo Guide - or do a search on tree identification in a Search Engine - go back to the place you bought it or go to a bonsai center (or even a garden center) and ask them to identify it! Without this information the newsgroup cannot help you! Say how and where you keep your bonsai. Is it in the garden, on a balcony, indoors? This makes a big difference to treatment. Don't ask stupid questions - you will get stupid answers. If you ask the question "How do I prune my bonsai" - you will probably get the answer "with clippers". This question is about as sensible as asking "How do I feed my animal?". "WHAT SORT OF ANIMAL?", "WHERE DO YOU LIVE?" "??????" - Give it a bone, give it lots of hugs, let it suck your finger, take it for walks, no more than a pinch of food every day are good answers except if you have resp. a Goldfish, aligator, snake, turtle, Doberman. R.T.F.M. This basically means that you are expected to have spent some effort to find the answer to your question BEFORE you ask the news group (The Acronym comes from the computer programming world and means "Read The F****** Manual"). There are dozens of websites giving basic instructions about growing and caring for bonsai - read them FIRST PLEASE!!!! Some are mentioned below.
