Reiner is a Chartered Accountant and has his own business specialising as a public accountant.
He started bonsai in 1981 by joining The Toronto Bonsai Society. He edited the club's newsletter for 4 years, and was treasurer for another 4 years.
Then followed a few years on the Executive as a member-at-large until around 1996.
He became chairman of the organizing committe for IBC '97.
He has occasionally given lectures and demonstrations.

He likes woking with collected material of all sorts, but especially native (in Canada) Thuja occidentalis (Eastern White Cedar), Larix laricina (American larch or Tamarack) and Picea mariana (Black spruce). He also likes japanese maples.

He has written articles for 'International Bonsai', the 'Bonsai Magazine' of Bonsai Clubs International and the English magazine 'Bonsai'.
